cantik, kan
was reading an article, there's hibiscus everywhere in Cuba (half-way across the world), but pretty rare in this country, for a declared 'national flower'.
*sigh*

a national treasure

the hibiscus is such a pretty flower, complex in design yet very much captivating... but - how many of them do we see around??? this is the problem of our malaysians - no concern for all things pretty and of nature. chasing after money and profits is all that matters, kan?!? ....
save the planet, dudes....

the miracle of life
|
|
today i looked around and opened my eyes to the miracle of life... first there was the cute little cili plants (fiery red hot sabah cili, ok, to burn a hole in your gastro-intestinal system) were merrily sprouting out. so far, three have been growing well with one lil one just popping up. great!
second, i looked into the little aquarium that i have, and WOW! so adorable - there's one extra lil fella! i havent seen that for so long, that i was really really amused. sadly though, God gives and God takes away too - one of the adults died. i thought it was child-birth but i'm not sure if this fish is live-bearing; there are some fish who do that as opposed to laying eggs.
well, still, our home has some reason to celebrate this miracle

flowers, again... Chapter IX
|
|
|
sunday noon popped by at my granny's house and the rose (is it a rose? not sure) has bloomed! brilliant red / fuschia amongst the green lawn, it stood out in the bright sunlight. out popped the camera, for sure. see for yourself.

all about life and the airport
|
|
so we malaysians have a fantastic spanking huge airport at KLIA. Big Deal. what we have is another under-utilized white elephant of a project.
big in size? so what? with the number of visitors we have, all it does is make it look pathetically empty....
and the design? what design? it's the ultimate in minimalist steel-and-glass bullshit. doesn't reflect any of the rich architectural traditions that we malaysians possess. its a big yawn.
maybe i'm just nostalgic for the old subang airport. the many times we've converged there to send friends and families. the happiness of seeing someone arrive, and the melancholy of a departure... the fact that the airport wasn't that big gave it a sense of cosiness, a closeness for the platoons of family members as if it was a place for reunion. The crowds every day, filled with fun, laughter, sadness, tears. It's just such a warm, emotion-filled, lively and lovely place. KLIA is as cold as the steel and glass it possesses. And the emptiness of it all makes the temperature drop a few notches... sigh.
Subang airport, where half the fun was also to choose between the KFC or the A&W.... where as a boy we'd be able to go to the balcony, and wave to our loved ones departing... and sometimes even to use the binoculars there, what a luxury these simple things can be!
oh, and the many many times i'd rush there to pick my sis up after work. these, my friends, are what memories are made of.
NOT such droll facts as how many billions a place costs, how many (unutilised) square feet it has, and how many millions of people might pass through its gates (though i doubt this cos i believe our tourism produts just SUCK.)
g'nite, i've been a rambling fool....

it was a rare occassion - catered food at the house, waiters and all. our dear aunty juliet's birthday it was, celebrated in style, so very different eh! the colour was pink (though no-one told me about it, if not i'd be decked in some pink too!).
lil katelyn was dressed suitable, and so was her mama! all the ladies pretty in pink...
there was a huge roast lamb (of which one leg is in my fridge at this very moment), and all sorts of other delicious food like butter prawns, seafood taufoo, and roast duck (the venerable 'bottomless pit' andrew lim did a HOUDINI of the duck, now u see it, now u dont ). wine was served, so was soyabean and ice-blended drinks (fantastic frappes sponsored graciously by Chillz Beverage Delights ).
now let the pictures do the talking, shall we...

so one fine sunday off we went to aquaria klcc. not expecting much, i was much surprised cos it was a happy trip, and a good attraction too. apart from the loud thumping music from the sound-system - they had a charity celebrity dive thingy that day.
the highlight? the big aquarium of course, with the walk-thru tunnel. damn fun to see sharks and rays and schools of fish swimming by, going above us, and just going about their business as us homo sapiens gawked and pointed and waved and took pics of all the wonders of the animal kingdom.... perhaps they were amused by us, looking at us the same way too? admiring, wondering, laughing at us???....
there was also this big river freshwater fish (cant remember the name) which they caught weighing about 100 kilos or so. its diet? dogs, cats and small kids. dont just jump into any river yaaa.... kena gigit nanti har har.
an overall good time, a local tourist spot which is actually interesting??!! amazing. recommended.
